Host With Me
An event marketplace: venues, caterers and photographers, booked in one place.
A marketplace where hosts find and book event vendors and vendors manage their listings and leads. The core is a booking state machine with transactional integrity, so a failed confirmation can never leave a booking half-written.
What I did
- Backend

State machine
quote → booking with transactional integrity
Serverless
AWS Lambda + FFmpeg video pipeline

01
Why I built it
Event hosts lose days chasing vendors for quotes and availability.
02
The problem
- A booking moves through many states (quote, negotiation, confirmation) across related records.
- Vendor videos need processing before they can be shown.
03
System design
- 1
Booking engine
Booking state machine with transactional integrity across state transitions — a failed confirmation cannot leave the booking in a partial state.
- 2
Media pipeline
AWS Lambda + FFmpeg serverless video processing pipeline.
04
Decisions & trade-offs
Transactional state transitions
Why: A confirmation that half-writes would create ghost bookings with no way to compensate.
Trade-off: Stricter transaction boundaries around every state change.
