KAORA

A perfume house: the brand, the packaging and the store, all designed and built by me.

KAORA sells unisex eaux de parfum and alcohol-free solid perfumes, made in India. I designed the brand's packaging, labels and launch campaigns, then built kaora.in: a fast, search-ready store with per-product share images, structured data and a Google Shopping feed.

  • 200%+

sales growth, driven by SEO and the new store

  • 7

01

Why I built it

A new perfume brand has to feel premium before anyone smells it. That feeling comes from the bottle, the box, the campaign and the website agreeing with each other. Because one person designed all of them, the identity on the shelf and the identity on the screen are the same.

02

The problem

  • A young brand competing with established luxury houses for trust.
  • Product pages that need to rank on Google and appear in Google Shopping.
  • Two very different product lines (eau de parfum and solid perfume) under one look.

03

System design

  1. 1

    Product data

One data file per product drives the page, the share image, the structured data and the feed.

  2. 2

    Next.js on Vercel

Statically generated product pages for speed.

  3. 3

    Share images

A generated Open Graph image for every product.

  4. 4

    Search + Shopping

Product JSON-LD, an image sitemap and a Google Merchant feed, all generated from the same data.

04

Decisions & trade-offs

  • One product record feeds everything

Why: Adding a fragrance updates its page, share image, schema, sitemap and Shopping feed at once, so they can never disagree.

Trade-off: The data model had to be designed up front, before the pages.

  • No fake ratings in the structured data

Why: Ratings that can't be verified are a Google penalty risk and a trust risk, so they stay out until real reviews exist.

Trade-off: No star ratings in search results for now.

05

Backend & frontend

Backend

  • Per-product Open Graph images, product JSON-LD with shipping and returns.
  • Google Merchant feed and an image sitemap generated from product data.

Frontend

  • Luxury storefront: pure white, Playfair Display + Jost, square corners.
  • Product films and campaign imagery for Blossom and Royal Musk.

06

Design

  • Packaging and regulatory labels, e.g. the Blossom 30 ml box.
  • Solid-perfume tins in five scent colourways.
  • Launch campaigns: Royal Musk, 12-hour longevity, How to use, festive offers.

07

Results

  • Sales grew by more than 200%, driven by search visibility (SEO, structured data, Google Shopping) and the new store.
  • Live at kaora.in, with products also sold on Amazon and Flipkart.

What's next

  • Customer reviews, then ratings in search.
